How is it halfway through 2020? What happened to this year, it has been a complete shit show lol. Who would have thought! I had so many fun activities planned for 2020 and some great book goals as well, and now that I am halfway through the year I realize that it might not be attainable this year and that is totally ok, I will just do them when I am able to. When I started this tag I felt comfortable and confident in what I had read this year. By the end of the tag, I was kind of shocked that I wasn’t in love with more books, I need to get back into my reading routine and devour more literature!
1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2019
I have read a few 5-star books this year, but my absolute favourite would have to be The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks. I am a huge fan of his books but the romance mixed with thriller was amazing. I love all of his books, I can’t think of one I didn’t enjoy so it really isn’t a shocker that I loved this one too.
2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2019
Obviously Heartstopper, though it is more of a series than a sequel. I love Alice Oseman and her characters. This book just speaks to me in so many ways and I love how you just get sucked up into the Heartstopper world. I was so sad when the three comics were over, but I constantly stay updated on Tapas as she frequently uploads new pages.
3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to
This one is tough for me because I am sooo bad at staying up to date on new releases. I don’t even know why! I think if I didn’t take so long to pick up reading again I would have been more onto new releases but there are so many books that I want to read right now and new releases just aren’t really in my mind. I don’t love following trends lol. If I had to choose one it would be Take Me Apart by Sarah Sligar. I have heard so many great things about this book and I think I would really enjoy it.
4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year
After searching through my Goodreads list for the previous question, it would be 100% Midnight Sun by Stephanie Meyer. I am a huge Twilight fan so I am clearly obsessed with this new release coming out. I have debated on wanting to re-read the series but now that I am back at work that probably won’t happen. I might re-watch the movies though.
5. Biggest disappointment
This was so easy to pick, The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton. This book just blew right over my head. I have thought that maybe I just didn’t understand something in the beginning and needed to re-read it but I couldn’t bring myself to go through that again. I just struggled to pick this book up and really grasp the concept. I’m sorry to all the fans of this book, it just wasn’t for me, I TRIED!
6. Biggest surprise
This was my biggest surprise of the year so far but if you look at my reading record it totally shouldn’t be a surprise that I loved My Favourite Half-Night Stand by Christina Lauren. I had actually read a few of her other books in the past and loved her writing style. Obviously I loved this book too, I think when I was reading it or picked it up I just didn’t realize it was her book. Clearly I buy books based on the covers lol. I loved Millie and how she is the only girl friend in a group of guys, I just lived for their friend group dynamic.
7. Favorite new author (debut or new to you)
Maya Banks, she is an author I have wanted to read for a while but only just started reading a series of hers and I am hooked. I am reading the Breathless trilogy and it is amazing. Her writing just flows so well, every scene goes into each other and I can picture the story in my head so well. I found she writes her characters really well and describes them as if you know them in real life. I can’t wait to finish the series and also pick up some of her other books.
8. Newest fictional crush
Oh god, there was probably a list of them lol. I think I get a new crush on a fictional character with every book I read. It was so hard to just choose one but if I had to it would be Christian Grey from Darker. I just love him as a person, and reading the series from his point of view really makes me like him that much more. I don’t know if it’s because I can relate to the feelings he has towards his mother. Who knows, I just love him.
9. Book that made you cry
Did anyone else read Me Before You and just die a little inside? Because ME! I picked up this book expecting it to be cute and lovey but my heart was ripped out from my body and stomped on. Will just breaks my heart and the ending just made me cry. I love Will and Louisa and I know that the story continues on in two other books but I just need time to process the first one still before I read the others.
10. Book that made you happy
This was hard for me to choose because a lot of the books I read make me very happy, I’m easy to please bok wise. I would have to say its probably Bloom by Kevin Panetta, it is such a cute coming of age story. The graphics are beautiful, the story is adorable and the characters are lovely. I also really loved Meet Cute, it is a series of love stories and stories of people’s first time meeting. It’s just an adorable collection of stories and if you need a good pick me up I would recommend both of these!
11. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)
Radio Silence by Alice Oseman hands down! After my Heartstopper obsession I looked up what other books she has written and saw Radio Silence was one of hers. I had heard about it and seen a lot about it on Booktube but didn’t connect the dots. I immediately ordered it and it is beautiful. I am so happy I picked it up, and can’t wait to read a novel by her.
12. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
Literally all of my TBR! I want to start 2021 with a fresh TBR shelf lol but who knows if that will ever happen. My top want to read book would be Red, White and Royal Blue. Everyone has been obsessing over this book and keep recommending that I read it and I promise I will by the end of the year!
